Every year, The Daily Star and HSBC Bank team up to throw the Annual Award Presentation Ceremony and it is always a blast celebrating the incredible O- and A-Level exam results from our amazing students across Bangladesh.

Each year, our students make us proud with their amazing achievements—and this year was no exception! From the latest session, 14 talented O-Level achievers and 7 brilliant A-Level stars have made their mark, proving that hard work and dedication always pay off. Miah MdWakib Irfan from our Mirpur Campus made history by achieving the World Highest Score in Mathematics D! His incredible dedication and love for learning are truly inspiring and set a shining example for everyone at ESS.

The awards are handed out by some awesome personalities every year, like Law Adviser Prof. Asif Nazrul, Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, and The Daily Star’s Editor and Publisher, Mr. Mahfuz Anam—making it an extra special and inspiring day! At ESS, we are all about that perseverance vibe and year after year, our students show us that with a bit of grit and determination, dreams really do come true.

Pitha Uthshob at ESS – A Colourful Celebration of Culture

Every year, all campuses of European Standard School (ESS) come alive with the vibrant celebration of Pitha Uthshob. It is a day filled with joy, colours and the delicious aroma of traditional Bengali pithas. Students bring a variety of homemade pithas such as patishapta, bhapa, rosh monjuri, nakshi, jhinuk, chitoi and puli turning the school grounds into a delightful food festival that reflects our rich culture and traditions.

The entire school premises are decorated beautifully, creating a festive atmosphere. Teachers and students dress up in bright, traditional Bengali clothes—panjabis, sarees, and salwar kameez—adding a splash of colour and tradition to the day.

The celebration does not end with food. A cultural programme, featuring lively songs, dancesand poetry recitations, keeps everyone entertained. Students showcase their talents on stage, making the day even more memorable.

Our directors and principal also join the event, encouraging everyone to take part and enjoy the festive spirit. Their presence makes the occasion even more special for students, parents and teachers alike.

Pitha Uthshob at ESS is more than just a festival. It is a celebration of who we are—our food, our clothes, our songs and our traditions. Every year, it brings us all a little closer to our roots.

The Road to Leadership: ESS Prefect Elections

At European Standard School (ESS), leadership is nurtured through a dynamic and democratic process. The Prefect Elections, held from Grade III to VII, transform the traditional method of choosing leaders into a meaningful experience that builds confidence, communication, and decision-making skills.

The journey begins with the nomination of three to four students from each class. These nominees campaign among their peers, presenting speeches during a debating session to share their vision and values. They then appear for an interview with the Principal and Director, where their leadership qualities, dedication, and suitability are carefully assessed.

Election day is a festive and exciting event. Students cast their votes after considering the speeches and interviews, actively participating in a process that reflects the core principles of democracy.

This system empowers students to take ownership of their choices and understand the responsibilities of leadership. It instills values such as integrity, teamwork, and civic awareness. At ESS, prefects are not simply chosen—they are elected by their peers, making them true representatives of their classmates’ trust and aspirations. Through this enriching process, ESS shapes not just student leaders, but future citizens ready to lead with purpose and responsibility.

ESS Math Olympiad: A Proud Tradition of Nurturing Mathematical Minds

This long-standing competition has become a highlight of the academic calendar, drawing enthusiastic participants from every grade level. From the initial registration to the final round, the Olympiad is a journey of discovery, challenge and growth. Students engage in multiple stages of competition, including the thought-provoking Selection Round, the fast-paced Elimination Round and the climactic Grand Finale, each designed to test logic, creativity and perseverance.

To ensure a fair and engaging contest, participants are divided into age-appropriate groups.Furthermore, the competition is fierce but always fuelled by mutual respect, encouragement and a shared love for mathematics. Year after year, top performers are recognised and celebrated, while every participant walks away with new insights and a sense of achievement.

The ESS Math Olympiad is more than just a contest; it is a vibrant tradition that fosters curiosity, sharpens analytical skills and instils confidence in young learners. The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at ESS: A Tradition of Excellence and Empowerment

For over a decade, the European Standard School (ESS) has proudly hosted the prestigious The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, one of the world’s leading youth achievement programmes. Designed to equip young people with the skills, confidence and resilience to navigate life’s challenges, the Award has become a foundation of character development at ESS. Additionally, this Award can help achieve international scholarships and a global network for employability.

Each year, ESS students enrol themselves into three different levels of the Award for the period of 6 -12 months. Our trained teachers guide them to develop their skills, conduct physical recreation, take part in voluntary service and embark on a transformative adventure journey following the Duke of Edinburgh’s framework. The flagship aim of this enthralling programme is to make the young students self-dependent.

The highlight of the Award experience is the Adventure Journey, an unforgettable outdoor expedition activity. Participants prepare for their expedition by exchanging ideas, learning vital survival techniques and building camaraderie with fellow team members. The journey concludes with a powerful reflection session, celebrating growth, friendships and lessons that will last a lifetime.

ESS remains deeply committed to nurturing globally aware, confident, and responsible leaders through the enduring legacy of The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award. We look forward to seeing many more ESS students embrace the spirit of discovery through the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in the years to come.

ESSDC: United We Stand, In Debate We Shine

Since its inception, the European Standard School Debating Club (ESSDC) has stood as a symbol of resilience, determination, and excellence. More than just an extracurricular activity, debating at ESSDC is a dynamic sport that instills purpose, sharpens critical thinking, and fosters a strong sense of identity among its members. The club cultivates meaningful experiences and emotional connections that leave a lasting impact on every debater. Known for producing remarkable talents, ESSDC has consistently empowered the young minds to rise above expectations—driven by their passion, discipline, and unwavering commitment to the art of debate.

The World Schools Debating Championship (WSDC) is the World Cup of school debating. Every year, nations send their best debaters to represent their flags on the international stage. That ESS debaters are chosen for WSDC almost every year stands as a testament to their caliber. In 2018, the championship was hosted by Croatia from 17 to 26 July. Following a rigorous selection process, five debaters were chosen to represent Bangladesh—among them were Sreyan Kanungo and Towseef Hossain from European Standard School. Yes, the duo carried the ESS banner onto the global stage. The following year, Lamia continued the legacy with equal zeal.

Till today, with prestige and glory, ESSDC continues its journey to leave the mark on English debating circuit both in national and international horizon. Below is the list:
